Mumbai: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan underwent emergency surgery at Lilavati Hospital after sustaining a severe injury to his thoracic spinal cord. Doctors successfully removed a 2.5-inch knife lodged in his spine and repaired leaking spinal fluid. The harrowing incident unfolded at Saif’s residence in Bandra during the early hours of Thursday, reportedly during a robbery attempt.
The attack occurred when an intruder entered Khan’s home using a fire escape staircase, police confirmed. The confrontation began after the accused reportedly threatened a household staff member. When Khan intervened, the altercation escalated into violence, leaving the actor with multiple injuries.
Dixit Gedam, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone 9, revealed, “It appears to be a robbery attempt. Ten detection teams are actively investigating the case, and an offence has been registered at Bandra Police Station.”

Dr. Nitin Dange of Lilavati Hospital provided an update on the actor’s condition:
“Saif Ali Khan was admitted around 2 a.m. with injuries sustained during the attack. A knife lodged in his spine caused a major injury to the thoracic spinal cord, which was removed during surgery. Additionally, two deep wounds on his left hand and one on his neck were repaired by our plastic surgery team. He is now completely stable and out of danger.”
Dr. Niraj Uttamani, the hospital’s Chief Operating Officer, added, “Saif has been shifted to the ICU for one day of observation following successful neurosurgery and plastic surgery. He is recovering well and is expected to make a full recovery.”
Authorities have intensified efforts to locate the suspect behind the attack. Investigators are exploring surveillance footage and gathering witness testimonies to track down the assailant.
