In a recent address, RSS leader Mohan Bhagwat emphasized the importance of embracing traditional practices and fostering unity within the Hindu community.
During the Hindu Unity Conference at the 113th Cherukolpuzha Hindu Religious Convention in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district, Bhagwat urged Hindus to integrate traditional customs into their daily routines. He recommended that families engage in weekly gatherings to reflect on their adherence to cultural practices. “Once a week, everyone in the house should come together… sing bhajans, eat home-cooked food happily, and then discuss topics like who we are, our traditions, and culture,” he stated.
Bhagwat emphasized the use of native languages within households, the wearing of traditional attire during festivals and religious events, and the consumption of local cuisine. He remarked, “Within the four walls of our house, language, clothing, devotion, food, and bhavan should be our own. In my house, I will speak Malayalam because it is my mother tongue. I will not speak English.”
Advocating for Hindu Unity
Highlighting the significance of unity, Bhagwat asserted that the Hindu society can flourish only if it remains united, transcending divisions of caste, region, or language. He stated, “A united society flourishes, while one that is divided withers away.” He further emphasized that in Hindu dharma, no one is superior or inferior, and there is no place for untouchability. “If all Hindus are united, it will benefit the world,” he added.
Bhagwat also touched upon contemporary social challenges, particularly the issue of drug addiction among youth. He attributed this problem to a lack of cultural values being imparted at home, stating, “Why are our youth addicted to drugs? It is because there are no ‘sanskars’ at home.” He urged families to instill cultural and moral values in their children to combat such issues.
Emphasizing environmental responsibility, Bhagwat called upon the Hindu community to actively participate in conservation efforts. He suggested simple yet impactful actions such as saving water, planting trees, and reducing plastic usage. He noted that while policy changes for environmental protection may take time, individual actions can contribute significantly to the cause.
Mohan Bhagwat’s address underscores a call for Hindus to reconnect with their cultural roots, promote unity, and address societal challenges through traditional values and practices. By advocating for a lifestyle aligned with cultural traditions and emphasizing collective responsibility, Bhagwat envisions a harmonious and progressive Hindu society contributing positively to the broader world.
