Observed annually on February 28, National Science Day commemorates the discovery of the ‘Raman Effect’ by renowned physicist Sir C.V. Raman, a breakthrough that earned him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930. This discovery, made at the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science in Kolkata, remains a landmark in the field of physics.
PM Modi took to social media platform X to share his message:
“Greetings on National Science Day to those passionate about science, particularly our young innovators. Let’s continue to popularize science and innovation while leveraging them to build a Viksit Bharat.”
The Prime Minister also shared a video tribute to Sir C.V. Raman, highlighting the significance of scientific advancements in nation-building. He remarked that “Curiosity is the mother of science… and every mind is naturally drawn to it.”
Encouraging Youth Participation in Science
PM Modi has consistently encouraged youth participation in scientific activities. In this month’s Mann Ki Baat, he mentioned the initiative ‘One Day as a Scientist,’ aimed at fostering curiosity and hands-on engagement among young minds.
The theme for National Science Day 2025 is:
“Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science and Innovation for Viksit Bharat.”
This theme reflects PM Modi’s vision of harnessing youth potential to drive India’s transformation through cutting-edge research and technological advancements.
The Ministry of Ayush reaffirmed its commitment to integrating traditional wisdom with modern scientific research. In a post on X, the ministry stated:
“This year’s theme will inspire youth to innovate and lead in holistic healthcare.”
Leaders Extend Wishes to Scientists and Innovators
Several senior government officials and ministers extended their greetings on National Science Day, recognizing the invaluable contributions of scientists and researchers.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan:
Pradhan highlighted the importance of cutting-edge research and homegrown technological advancements in achieving India’s self-reliance.
“India’s path to Aatmanirbhar and Viksit Bharat will be fueled by breakthrough research and indigenous innovations,” he wrote on X.
Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh:
Jitendra Singh paid tribute to Sir C.V. Raman, calling him a Bharat Ratna who revolutionized Indian science.
“Remembering the great physicist, Bharat Ratna Sir C.V. Raman on National Science Day. His groundbreaking research on the Raman Effect earned him the first Nobel Prize in Physics awarded to any scientist in Asia in 1930,” he stated on X.
