Jammu Police Arrest 300 peddlers, Recover Drugs Worth Hundreds of Crores

Date:

In a landmark effort to combat the growing drug menace, Jammu Police achieved remarkable success in 2024 by arresting over 300 individuals linked to 200 cases of drug peddling and recovering a staggering 43.854 kg of heroin, valued at several hundred crores in the black market. This unprecedented crackdown underscores the police department’s commitment to dismantling drug syndicates and eradicating narco-crimes from the region.

Anti-Drug Drive in Jammu

The year-long anti-drug operations were part of an intensified effort by the Jammu Police under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. According to a police spokesperson, these operations resulted in the registration of 200 cases and the arrest of 300 offenders.

Of these cases, 153 were related to heroin smuggling, which saw 246 individuals arrested. Among those apprehended, 19 hardcore drug peddlers were booked under the stringent Prevention of Illicit Traffic in NDPS Act, reflecting the department’s zero-tolerance policy toward habitual offenders. In addition to arresting the perpetrators, the police seized significant assets associated with the drug trade, aiming to dismantle the financial backbone of these illegal activities.

  • 83 vehicles involved in drug trafficking were seized.
  • 11 immovable properties worth ₹4.69 crore were attached under the NDPS Act.
  • Three movable properties, primarily vehicles, valued at ₹12.50 lakh, were also confiscated.

Demolishing Drug Hotspots in Jammu

In a bid to eliminate the infrastructure that supports the narcotics trade, Jammu Police demolished four drug hotspots. These areas had long been identified as hubs for drug peddling and smuggling. The police, in collaboration with the civil administration and support from the public, are actively working to dismantle remaining drug hotspots in the region.

The recovery of 43.854 kg of heroin highlights the enormity of the narcotics trade in the region. This quantity of heroin, valued at several hundred crores in the black market, was a major blow to the drug networks. A police spokesperson noted, “This recovery underscores the magnitude of the narcotics trade in the region and the police’s relentless efforts to intercept and eradicate the supply chain.”

Rehabilitation and Mental Health Initiatives

Recognizing the need for a multi-faceted approach to address drug abuse, the police have prioritized the rehabilitation of addicts. In March 2024, the largest Police Drug De-addiction, Rehabilitation, and Mental Health Care Centre became operational in Channi, Jammu city. This facility is dedicated to providing comprehensive care to those affected by drug addiction and aims to reintegrate them into society.

The success of these operations can also be attributed to the active support of the public and civil administration. Local residents have been instrumental in reporting suspicious activities and providing crucial intelligence, aiding the police in their mission to rid the region of narco-crimes.

The year 2024 marked a significant milestone in the Jammu Police’s fight against drug-related crimes. With 300 arrests, the confiscation of properties worth crores, and the recovery of heroin on a massive scale, the police have set a benchmark in their mission to combat the drug menace. The establishment of rehabilitation centers further demonstrates a holistic approach to addressing the issue, ensuring both prevention and recovery.

The crackdown sends a clear message: the Jammu Police remain steadfast in their resolve to combat the drug trade and protect the community from its devastating effects. As efforts continue, the collaboration between law enforcement, civil administration, and the public will play a pivotal role in sustaining this momentum.
