On June 23, 2025, a Jammu court granted the National Investigation Agency (NIA) a five-day remand of two individuals arrested in connection with the Pahalgam terror attack that occurred on April 22, 2025. The accused, identified as Parvaiz Ahmad and Bashir Ahmad, are alleged to have harbored the terrorists responsible for the attack, which claimed 26 civilian lives.
The NIA presented the accused before the Additional District and Sessions Judge in Jammu, who approved the agency’s request for custody until June 27, 2025. The investigation aims to uncover further details about the planning and execution of the attack, as well as to identify any additional collaborators involved.
The Pahalgam terror attack, carried out by three Pakistani terrorists affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), targeted tourists in the Baisaran Valley area. The assailants reportedly received assistance from local residents who provided shelter and logistical support prior to the attack.
The incident has had a significant impact on the local economy, particularly the tourism sector, which is a vital source of income for the region. Following the attack, there was a noticeable decline in tourist visits to Pahalgam, leading to economic challenges for residents dependent on tourism-related activities.
