In a troubling incident highlighting the risks faced by law enforcement officials, two Haryana State Enforcement Bureau officers sustained injuries in an alleged attack by individuals associated with the illegal mining mafia. The attack reportedly took place in the Ghata Shamshabad village of Nuh district, during an inspection of illegal mining operations. The incident underscores the growing challenges of tackling illegal mining activities in the region.
Illegal Mining in Nuh Haryana
According to the police report, Inspector Surajmal, Assistant Sub-Inspector Rakesh, and driver Rafiq were en route to Ferozpur Jhirka-Beewan Road for an inspection following information about illegal mining activities. As the team approached the Ghata Shamshabad police naka, they encountered three tractor-trolleys laden with illegally mined stones. Despite repeated attempts to halt the vehicles, the drivers refused to comply.
The situation escalated when one tractor driver fled into the village, while the others abandoned their trolleys and escaped. Moments later, a group of 20-25 individuals, allegedly part of the illegal mining mafia, confronted the officers and began pelting them with stones. This brazen attack left Inspector Surajmal and his team injured, forcing them to retreat from the scene to ensure their safety.
Following the incident, the Ferozpur Jhirka police station registered an FIR against three named individuals—Muli, Arsad, and Dhola—as well as 22 unidentified persons. The case has been filed under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and other relevant laws. Inspector Surajmal’s detailed complaint served as the basis for the FIR, which highlighted the attack and the subsequent escape of the accused with the abandoned tractor-trolley.
Aman Singh, the SHO of Ferozpur Jhirka police station, stated that efforts are underway to apprehend the suspects. “Raids are being conducted to nab the accused, and they will be brought to justice soon,” Singh assured.
The Growing Menace of Illegal Mining in Nuh District
This isn’t the first case of attacks on such officer by mining mafia. On July 19 2022 mining mafia truck driver allegedly mowed down DSP (Deputy Superintendent of Police) Surender Singh in Tauru, Mewat. Illegal mining has long been a contentious issue in Haryana, particularly in the Nuh district, which is known for its rich deposits of construction-grade stone and sand. Despite strict regulations and frequent crackdowns, illegal mining operations continue to thrive, often leading to confrontations between law enforcement agencies and those involved in the trade.
The illegal mining mafia’s activities not only result in significant environmental degradation but also pose serious risks to public safety and government revenue. Such incidents underscore the urgent need for enhanced law enforcement measures and community awareness to combat the illegal extraction of natural resources.
It is crucial for the government, law enforcement agencies, and citizens to work together to eliminate illegal mining operations. By adopting a holistic approach, we can safeguard our natural resources, protect the environment, and ensure the safety of those enforcing the law.
