A 17-year-old NEET aspirant, Sadhna Bhosale, was allegedly beaten to death by her father, Dhondiram Bhosale, a school principal, after she scored low marks in a mock test. The incident occurred on June 21 in Nelkaranji village, Atpadi tehsil. Sadhna, a Class 12 student who had previously achieved 92.6% in her Class 10 exams, was preparing for the NEET exam and had returned home to attend a family function.
According to police reports, Dhondiram was angered by his daughter’s performance and attacked her with a wooden stick, causing severe injuries. Despite her critical condition, she was not taken to the hospital immediately. The following morning, Dhondiram attended a Yoga Day program, leaving Sadhna unattended. Upon his return, he found her unconscious and rushed her to Ushakal Hospital in Sangli, where she was declared dead.
Sadhna’s mother filed a complaint against her husband, leading to his arrest. He has been charged under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015. The case has sparked outrage and brought attention to the pressures faced by students preparing for competitive exams like NEET.
This incident underscores the need for addressing the intense academic pressure on students and the importance of mental health awareness. It also highlights the critical role of parental support and understanding in a student’s academic journey.
