Spring has arrived, and with it comes the vibrant beauty of blooming flowers across India. President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated Udyan Utsav 2025 at Rashtrapati Bhavan, marking the public opening of Amrit Udyan. Previously known as Mughal Gardens, this stunning green space will welcome visitors from February 2 to March 30, 2025. The 15-acre garden showcases a variety of rare flowers, herbal plants, and bonsais, making it a must-visit destination for nature lovers.
This year, Amrit Udyan has expanded its offerings. Alongside the traditional East Lawn, Central Lawn, Long Garden, and Circular Garden, new sections have been opened. These include Herbal-I, Herbal-II, Tactile Garden, Bonsai Garden, and Arogya Vanam. The extended duration of public access allows more people to experience the beauty of these gardens.
Visitors will be treated to 12 varieties of specially cultivated tulips and 140 varieties of roses. Other seasonal flowers such as coleus, tuberose, and celosia will also be on display. The landscape is further enhanced by floral carpets, vertical gardens, and musical fountains. A 200-year-old sheesham tree stands as one of the garden’s highlights. The Bonsai Garden offers a unique collection of miniature trees, some decades old.
Technology has been integrated into the visitor experience. QR codes placed near plants and trees allow visitors to scan and learn more about them. On-the-spot bookings have also been introduced, making it easier for people to secure entry. Capacity per time slot has been increased, reducing wait times and improving the overall experience.
Amrit Udyan will remain open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily, with the last entry at 5:00 PM. Special days have been designated for certain groups. March 26 is reserved for differently-abled individuals, while March 27 is set aside for defense, paramilitary, and police personnel. On March 28, women and tribal women’s Self-Help Groups will have exclusive access. March 29 is dedicated to senior citizens. The gardens will be closed every Monday for maintenance, as well as on February 20-21 for the Visitors’ Conference and on March 14 for Holi celebrations.
Entry to Udyan Utsav is free, but visitors must book time slots in advance. Reservations can be made online through the official Rashtrapati Bhavan website, with slots opening 10 days before the visit date. On-the-spot tickets are also available at registration kiosks near the entrance.
Visitors are advised to follow certain guidelines. Footwear restrictions apply in delicate sections of the garden. Large bags, food, and beverages are not allowed. Mobile photography is permitted, but professional cameras and drones require special permission. The gardens are wheelchair-friendly, ensuring accessibility for elderly and differently-abled visitors.
