Manipur’s Future at Stake Without BJP, Says CM Biren Singh

Date:

In a recent address during the Samvidhan Gaurav Abhiyan held at Thambal Sanglen, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh launched a scathing attack on the Congress party and its elected representatives from the state. He accused them of failing to raise core issues concerning Manipur in Parliament, despite the trust the people had placed in them during the Lok Sabha elections.

The CM attributed the Congress’ win in the Lok Sabha polls to an emotional outburst by voters, a decision he claims has not yielded the expected results for the people of Manipur.

During his speech, CM Biren Singh expressed disappointment over what he termed as a “sudden emotional outburst” by the electorate that led to the election of two Congress MPs. He questioned their performance in Parliament, emphasizing their lack of advocacy on critical issues such as border fencing, the Free Movement Regime (FMR), and the identification of illegal immigrants.

“The mass in a sudden emotional outburst voted for them. However, have the two MPs said a word on border fencing, FMR, and the identification of illegal immigrants?” he asked. “At such a critical time when many have been killed and displaced, how were votes given to them?”

Manipur’s Core Issues Ignored

Manipur has faced significant challenges in recent times, from demographic imbalances to border security. According to the Chief Minister, these are issues that demand urgent attention in Parliament. He criticized the silence of the Congress MPs on these matters, stating:

“The MPs should speak in the House on core issues. What issues have the two MPs raised in Parliament?”

Mr. Singh also targeted the Congress for its stance on regional autonomy. Referring to a social media post by former Union Minister P. Chidambaram—which was later deleted—he accused the Congress of supporting divisive policies. Chidambaram had reportedly suggested granting regional autonomy to Manipur’s three major communities, a proposal that Singh believes threatens the state’s unity.

“The Congress never clarified its stance on Chidambaram’s statement. It was during his tenure that external elements signed the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement,” the CM said.

This, he claimed, demonstrated the Congress’ neglect of the sensitive issues plaguing Manipur.

The BJP’s Role in Saving Manipur

Taking a firm stand, CM Singh asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been instrumental in maintaining the state’s stability. He warned that without the BJP’s presence at the Centre, the state risks disintegration.

“If there is no BJP at the Centre, Manipur will break. Only the BJP has saved the state,” he declared.

The Chief Minister highlighted the BJP’s ongoing efforts to address demographic imbalances and secure the borders, pointing to the party’s commitment to safeguarding national integrity.

In his address, Mr. Singh urged the people of Manipur to critically evaluate their choices and hold their representatives accountable. He emphasized the importance of electing leaders who prioritize the state’s welfare and actively advocate for its interests in Parliament.

“Those who love the nation and the land are supporters of the BJP,” the CM stated, reinforcing the party’s image as a unifying force in the region.

BJP’s Constitution Campaign

The Chief Minister’s remarks were part of the BJP’s 15-day Samvidhan Gaurav Abhiyan campaign, commemorating 75 years of the Indian Constitution. The initiative seeks to promote awareness of constitutional values and highlight the party’s role in preserving them.

CM N. Biren Singh’s comments reflect the growing political tension in Manipur as the state grapples with pressing issues of security, displacement, and demographic changes. His call for accountability from elected representatives underscores the need for proactive leadership to address these challenges. As the BJP positions itself as the custodian of Manipur’s unity, the onus lies on the electorate to align their votes with their aspirations for the state’s future.
