,

In a surprising turn of events, Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, has been the focus of spiritual and cultural attention at the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025. Known for her impactful contributions as a billionaire philanthropist and businesswoman, Ms. Jobs has embarked on an extraordinary journey to immerse herself in the rich traditions of Sanatan Dharma.

Her participation in the Maha Kumbh, the world’s largest religious gathering, has drawn global intrigue. While her brief indisposition amidst the bustling crowds raised concerns, the Uttar Pradesh government confirmed on Tuesday (January 14, 2025) that Ms. Jobs is now recovering well. Her health improved significantly after a rejuvenating ‘Ganga Snan’ (holy dip in the Ganges) and some well-deserved rest.

From Laurene Powell Jobs to Kamla

The spiritual atmosphere of the Maha Kumbh has resonated deeply with Laurene, so much so that her spiritual guide, Mahamandaleshwar Swami Kailashanand Giri of the Niranjani Akhara, bestowed upon her the name ‘Kamla’.

Swami Kailashanand, while addressing reporters, described Laurene as a “simple, virtuous, and humble woman” who has displayed profound respect and enthusiasm for Sanatan Dharma. According to him, her eagerness to understand the philosophies and traditions of this ancient way of life has been evident in her insightful questions and sincere interactions.

“She is free from ego and fully devoted to her guru,” Swami Kailashanand remarked, highlighting her humility despite her global fame and fortune.

Mahant Ravindra Puri, the chief of Panchayati Akhara Shri Niranjani and president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad (ABAP), shed light on Ms. Jobs’ motivations. Her spiritual curiosity and yearning for deeper understanding led her to the Maha Kumbh, where she has actively engaged with saints and seers.

“She dresses simply, conducts herself with grace, and remains devoid of any airs despite her stature,” noted Mahant Puri. He emphasized her genuine admiration for the ageless and timeless Sanatani culture, which she sees as the core of human consciousness. Laurene Powell Jobs has largely stayed away from the media spotlight during her time at the Maha Kumbh.
