In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the Defence Minister expressed his anticipation for the event:
“Leaving New Delhi for Akhnoor in Jammu and Kashmir. Looking forward to celebrate ‘Veterans Day’ with the Ex-servicemen of the Armed Forces,” he wrote.

This gathering under the aegis of the Northern Command exemplifies the nation’s gratitude for its armed forces, paying homage to the selfless service of veterans and their families.

Veterans Day is celebrated annually on January 14 to commemorate the retirement of Field Marshal KM Cariappa, the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces, who retired on this day in 1953. Known for his exemplary leadership, Field Marshal Cariappa set a benchmark for military excellence and patriotism.

Veterans day in Akhnoor

One of the most poignant moments of the day was the hoisting of a 108-foot National Flag, a powerful symbol of India’s unity and pride. Veterans, active servicemen, and local residents stood in unison, saluting the flag as it soared high against the backdrop of the Akhnoor skies.
