Shah reiterated that the fight against terrorism is in its final phase, but added that vigilance must be maintained, particularly in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections.

Upon his arrival in Srinagar on Monday, Amit Shah made an emotional stop at the residence of martyred Dy SP Humayun Bhat, in the Humhama area near Srinagar Airport. Shah spent about 20 minutes with the family, offering his condolences to Ghulam Hassan Bhat, retired IGP and father of the officer, as well as Fatima, the officer’s wife, and blessed their 20-month-old child.

Humayun Bhat lost his life in an encounter with terrorists in the forests of Kokernag on September 13, 2003, and was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra for his valour. Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha and Omar Abdullah accompanied Shah during this visit, underlining the unified tribute to the officer’s sacrifice.

In Jammu, the Home Minister met the families of four policemen who laid down their lives in an anti-terror operation in Kathua district. During the interaction, Amit Shah handed over compassionate appointment orders to the next of kin, offering jobs in government services as part of the Centre’s rehabilitation policy for martyr families.

Terrorism Has Declined But Not Eliminated: Amit Shah in Jammu

While interacting with BJP and RSS leaders in Jammu during a closed-door meeting held at the residence of Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma, Amit Shah made it clear that although terrorism has reduced significantly, complete normalcy is yet to be achieved.

He reassured that the Centre remains committed to eliminating the remnants of terror activities through a combination of military pressure, surveillance technologies, and community-level intelligence networks. BJP and RSS cadres were also instructed to remain active on the ground and engage with the public to counter misinformation.

Tech-Powered Border Vigilance: Shah Visits BSF Post in Kathua

In another key engagement, Shah visited the Border Security Force (BSF) outpost in Kathua, where he interacted with troops stationed along the international border. Lauding their bravery and relentless service, the Home Minister said the BSF is one of India’s most trusted and respected border protection forces.

“You serve the nation through the year, round the clock, in extreme weather conditions. Your sacrifices form the backbone of India’s internal security,” he told BSF personnel. Shah emphasized that the government is working toward fully equipping the BSF with next-generation technology to enable real-time surveillance and border management.

He said efforts are underway to make border surveillance completely technology-driven, with the deployment of drones, thermal sensors, night-vision cameras, and integrated command and control systems.

Meetings with Local Delegations and Individuals

In addition to the official meetings, Shah took time to engage with various delegations and individuals from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir, listening to public grievances, and receiving feedback on development schemes. His outreach aimed to build greater trust between the Centre and local stakeholders, especially as the region prepares for upcoming democratic processes.

Focus on Long-Term Peace and Development

A key message emerging from Amit Shah’s visit is the Centre’s dual-track strategy of strengthening security infrastructure while simultaneously accelerating development. By combining force with welfare, the government aims to isolate extremism and foster inclusive progress.

Officials stated that projects under PMGSY, Smart Cities Mission, and Ayushman Bharat have seen significant traction in the past year, with Srinagar and Jammu reporting visible transformation in civic infrastructure and public services.

Amit Shah also reviewed the status of return and rehabilitation policies for Kashmiri Pandits, infrastructure initiatives in border villages, and educational reforms under the NEP 2020 in the UT.

Amit Shah’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir comes at a critical time when the region is poised between security consolidation and developmental push. His engagements with security officials, families of martyrs, and common citizens reflect the Centre’s intent to maintain stability while pushing for grassroots development. While challenges remain, particularly in terms of eliminating the last vestiges of militancy, the Union Government’s approach of coupling vigilant security measures with developmental outreach may define the future trajectory of the region.
