In a sharp critique of the current leadership, Congress MP and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has called for a return to the “real development model” of former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. Gandhi’s comments come ahead of the Delhi assembly polls, as he targets both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal for their “false propaganda and PR model.”
Sharing a video montage on Facebook, Gandhi highlighted pressing issues such as inflation, unemployment, pollution, and corruption. In his post, he wrote in Hindi, “Bad construction, dirt, inflation, unemployment, pollution and corruption — the truth of Delhi is in front of the public.” Gandhi emphasized that Delhi now seeks the same real development model of Sheila Dikshit, rejecting the “false propaganda and PR model of Modi and Kejriwal.”
Due to health issues, Gandhi was unable to address a public meeting in the Sadar Bazar assembly segment on Wednesday. Instead, he appealed to voters via a message read out at the rally, urging them to ensure the party’s victory in the polls. His health also prevented him from traveling to Karnataka’s Belagavi for the ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan’ rally on Tuesday.
Earlier this month, Gandhi launched a scathing attack on PM Modi and Kejriwal, asserting that there was no difference between the two leaders. He accused them of not wanting backward communities, Dalits, tribals, and minorities to receive their due share.
At his first public meeting for the Delhi assembly polls, Gandhi specifically targeted Kejriwal, accusing him of following “Modi’s strategy of propaganda and false promises” despite the rising issues of pollution, corruption, and inflation in the national capital. Gandhi promised a caste survey in Delhi if the Congress formed the government in the national capital. He praised the work done under three successive Sheila Dikshit-led Congress governments, asserting that neither Kejriwal nor the BJP could match the Congress’ track record.
